SEEING RED
The Discovery Red is an eye-catching everyday watch. The rich cherry red of the dial is broken up by the use of two different finishes. The centre of the dial is textured with a vertical sunray brushing that completely transforms the colour when the light hits it. The effect of this makes it look like the dial is separated into two parts, which evokes the classic “sector dial” designs seen on vintage watches. This richly coloured dial is set off by applied numerals and a syringe handset that have a mirror polish so that they too pop in the light. Furthermore, both the hands and markers are filled with Super-LumiNova so that they’re legible in the dark. Lastly, the Farer ‘A’ at the tip of the sweeping seconds hand provides a subtle pop of pastel blue.
Features
Weekend Warrior - The watch is powered by a La Joux-Perret G101 movement. This automatic Swiss calibre comes with an impressive 68-hour power reserve.
Crystal Clear - The watch dial is protected by a domed box sapphire crystal, which has an internal anti-reflective coating. There is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the watch's rear.
Night Light - The hands and markers are filled with luminous Super-LumiNova for supreme legibility in the dark.
STORY
Named after Royal Research Ship Discovery, she was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in the United Kingdom and launched in 1901. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their first journey to the Antarctic, now known as the Discovery Expedition 1901 - 1904. The work was truly groundbreaking - recording valuable information on the oceans, and marine life and being the first scientific investigation into whale populations. After an extensive restoration project, Discovery is now the centrepiece of a visitor attraction today in the city where she was built, Dundee.
