DARK HORSE
The Discovery Black Velvet offers an impeccable blend of understated elegance and functional aesthetics. The model takes its name from the dial colour, which is an incredibly rich matte black. This rich abyss black provides the perfect contrast for the hands and markers, whose polished surfaces light up white when they catch the light. Meanwhile, the seconds hand is jet black, with a white Farer ‘A’ at the tip that appears to float around the dial, as the stem of the hand blends into the dial. The only pop of colour on the Black Velvet comes from the ice-blue lume that fills the hands and markers. This Grade X1 Super-LumiNova glows brightly in the dark and ensures that the watch is legible at any time.
With its high-contrast dial and blend of matte and polished finishes, the Discovery Black Velvet is certainly a versatile watch that can be trusted to accompany you anywhere, from a forest to a formal function.
Features
Weekend Warrior - The watch is powered by a La Joux-Perret G101 movement. This automatic Swiss calibre comes with an impressive 68-hour power reserve.
Crystal Clear - The watch dial is protected by a domed box sapphire crystal, which has an internal anti-reflective coating. There is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the watch's rear.
Night Light - The hands and markers are filled with luminous Super-LumiNova for supreme legibility in the dark.
STORY
Named after Royal Research Ship Discovery, she was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in the United Kingdom and launched in 1901. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their first journey to the Antarctic, now known as the Discovery Expedition 1901 - 1904. The work was truly groundbreaking - recording valuable information on the oceans, and marine life and being the first scientific investigation into whale populations. After an extensive restoration project, Discovery is now the centrepiece of a visitor attraction today in the city where she was built, Dundee.
