Stratton
GOLDEN GLOW
Following on from the success of the Lethbridge Gold cushion case model last year, we’re giving our Moonphase collection the Midas touch in the form of the new Stratton.
This brand new model features a gold PVD steel case and a stone dial cut from black Eisenkiesel. Eisenkiesel is a type of quartz, and the German name translates to “iron pebble”. This is in reference to the distinctive veins of iron compounds that run through the mineral, which are a golden brown hue that makes the stone the perfect choice for our first gold-coloured Moonphase. As Eisenkiesel is a naturally-made mineral, each dial has its own unique pattern, which means each watch will have its own distinctive appearance.
The moonphase complication has also been carefully thought out to perfectly complement the golden hues found throughout the watch. The moonphase disc on the Stratton is painstakingly hand-painted in Switzerland and features highly unusual luminous golden moons. Yes, you read that right, the Stratton uses gold Super-LumiNova. It's a shade which we developed with Tritec specifically for this watch.
Speaking of lume, the hour markers are a blend of batons and numerals made from Lumicast, a mix of ceramic and Super-LumiNova, which offers excellent legibility in the dark. These are paired with a sharp, polished lance handset and a crisp white minute track.
With its striking blend of warm gold tones and the natural patterns of the Eisenkiesel dial, the Stratton makes for a bold new addition to the Moonphase collection, which exudes the luxury traditionally associated with the complication.
Please note that due to Eisenkiesel being a naturally mined stone, the dial will be unique to each watch and may differ from the pictures shown.
FEATURES
Rock Star - The dial of the Stratton is made from a piece of eisenkiesel, a semi-precious gemstone that is mined, cut and polished into a unique dial that is just one millimetre thick.
Lunar Orbit - Each moonphase disc is hand-painted in Switzerland and features a textured moon set against a starry sky. What’s more, the moons themselves are painted using Super-LumiNova so that they glow brightly in the dark.
Curvaceous Comfort - The cushion case sits comfortably on any wrist, with a thickness of only 11.5mm and a compact lug-to-lug of 43.8mm.
Manual Drive - The watches in the Moonphase collection are powered by a Swiss-made Sellita SW288-1 Ma Elaboré Grade movement. This hand-wound calibre is highly decorated, with blued screws, snailed finishing, and a bespoke Farer embossed patterned bridge. All of which can be viewed through a sapphire case back.
Moon Light - The watch features hour markers made from Lumicast, a blend of ceramic and Super-LumiNova that offers unbeatable legibility at night. Naturally, the hands are also filled with Super-LumiNova.
STORY
The Stratton is named after Frederick Stratton, who was a decorated veteran of the First World War and a noted mathematician and astronomer. Born in Birmingham in 1881, Stratton showed an early aptitude for academics, winning several awards, and went on to join Caius College, Cambridge. During the First World War, he served with distinction as an officer and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and mentioned in dispatches five times. He was also awarded an OBE in 1929 for his war service. In peacetime, Stratton returned to a scientific career, eventually becoming Professor of Astrophysics and Director of the Solar Physics Observatory from 1928 to 1947. He was also president of the Royal Astronomical Society between 1933 and 1935, and in 1952, he was awarded the Prix Jules Janssen by the Société astronomique de France.
