The Alert captivates with a deep red dial that’s carefully crafted through a multi-stage process. First, it is pressed with a unique texture, then it is painted multiple times to create a smoky colour gradient that draws the eye towards the dial’s centre. A clear lacquer is then applied to the dial and polished to a glossy finish. Then, the hour markers, minute track and text are all printed onto the dial using white X2 Super-LumiNova.
Against this colourful background move the hands. The pencil hour and minute hands are gloss white and pop against the deep shades of the dial, and naturally, they’re filled with the newest Grade X2 SuperLumiNova. In contrast, the seconds hand is burgundy to blend into the dial, with a white Farer ‘A’ at its tip.
The finished product is a dial that is very legible, but that also features hidden depths, thanks to the many layers that go into making the dial.
FEATURES
Tantalising Textures - The dial is a complex blend of colours and textures crafted using a multi-stage process. First, the pattern is pressed onto the dial. Then it is painted with layers of different colours to create rich shades and gradients. Next, it's coated in a clear lacquer that's then polished to a mirror finish. The result is a dial that has a unique depth and richness that’s truly captivating.
Weekend Warrior - The watch is powered by a La Joux-Perret G101 movement. This automatic Swiss calibre comes with an impressive 68-hour power reserve. It is finished to La Joux-Perret's "soignée" standard, the highest grade of their calibre, which is adjusted to 4 positions.
Night Light - Not only are the hands filled with luminous Super-LumiNova, but the applied numerals are moulded from solid blocks of Super-LumiNova. Together these provide unparalleled legibility in the dark.
Crystal Clear - The watch dial is protected by a domed box sapphire crystal, which has an internal anti-reflective coating. There is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the watch's rear.
Hydrophobic - The Alert is water-resistant to 100m thanks to a screw-down crown and a monobloc construction mid-case which incorporates the movement holder into the main body of the case, rather than as a separate piece.
STORY
The Alert is named after HMS Alert, a Cruizer-class sloop in the Royal Navy. Launched in 1856, HMS Alert was based at Vancouver Island for her first 11 years before being converted for Arctic exploration in 1874. The ship then took part in the British Arctic Expedition, alongside the Discovery, where the participants won great fame from their daring exploration and mapping of the Arctic wilderness. In particular, the second-in-command of Alert, Albert Hastings Markham, took a party north to attempt reaching the Pole. Though they failed to reach it, they managed to get closer than anyone else before them, reaching their greatest latitude at 83° 20' 26"N. This was the pinnacle of Alert’s service, and the ship’s legacy lives on today with the northernmost permanently inhabited place on earth, the settlement of Alert at the northern point of Ellesmere Island, being named after the ship.
